Fatima Sheikh Biography, Wiki, Age, Career, Google Doodle & Social Reformer. Fatima Sheikh was an Indian educator. And social reformer who was also a colleague of the social reformers Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule. She is widely regarded as the first Muslim female teacher in India.

Fatima Sheikh sought to educate Dalit, Muslim women and children who were deprived of education on the basis of class, religion or gender. For this contribution, Fatima Sheikh has been called the first female Muslim teacher in modern India.

Fatima Sheikh was the sister of Mia Usman Sheikh, in whose house Jyoti and Savitribai lived. One of the first Muslim female teachers in modern India, she began teaching many children at Fuller’s School. Jyoti Rao and Savitribai Phule along with Fatima Sheikh took the responsibility of spreading education among the poor community.

Sheikh Savitribai met Flowers when they were both enrolled in a teacher training institute run by Cynthia Farar, an American missionary. She taught in five schools founded by Flowers and he taught children of all religions and castes. In 1851, Sheikh took part in the establishment of two schools in Mumbai.

Considered a “lifelong champion” in her case, Sheikh, along with social reformer Jyotirao and Savitribai Phul, co-founded one of India’s first schools for girls in 1848 and renamed it the Swadeshi Library. Fatima Sheikh and Savitribai Flower met when they were admitted to a teacher training institute run by American missionary Cynthia Farar. Then Shaikh not only gave these two a place to stay in his house, but also opened a school in Pune for the education of girls.

At that time Shudras did not have the right to receive education. In such an adverse situation, Fatema Sheikh not only taught in the school, but also went from house to house explaining the importance of educating girls and inspiring them to take up education.

Due to which she had to face the anger of some sections of the society. She taught in all the five schools of Savitribai Phul which he established. She has never divided any child on the basis of religion or caste, but has done a commendable job of educating the children of every religion in love and education.
